E&O Penang to Raffles Phnom Penh

Raffles Le Royal, Phnom Penh
Had a wonderful time in Penang Malaysia, but it was time to go and so we left the E&O in Penang and left for Raffles, Le Royal in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Had J Class tickets on Malaysian Airlines so we headed to PEN and flew to Kuala Lumpur. Stayed over night and ctook another Malaysian flight to PNH. Travel, love it!

New High Rises in Phnom Penh
Arrived in PNH at 17:30, caught a cab and in half an hour were at the colonial Raffles getting the room we always stay in there. The staff treats us so nicely there that it was great to be back. We usually stay in the Andre Malraux Personality suite. We haven’t been there in three years and Man, the view has really changed. Used to be small buildings and quiet and now its high rises and building everywhere. Andre Malraux was a very famous French novelist.

Elephant Bar
Even the Elephant Bar is different. It’s been enlarged and the whole place has been reoriented. Its still really nice though. Now they have nice little furnished alcoves where it is easy to keep to your self or meet other people. The changes have been for the better. They even kept their happy hour of 4:00pm to 9:00pm. How cool is that?

Jackie Kennedy with Prince Sihanouk 1964
The hotel itself was built in 1929, and was once the only place that the Cambodian Royal Family would place their foreign guests, including the former American First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The Femme Fatale cocktail, a heady mix of creme de frais de bois, Cognac and sparkling wine, was developed specifically for Kennedy by the royal household’s own barman, and is still served.

It makes for a perfectly glamorous start to an evening. Tami loves a FemmeFatale. Especially when it’s happy hour.

Fish Eating our Feet on Pub Street
Its good to be back at Raffles Le Royal in Phnom Penh. We always have a good time here, there’s a lot to do. Phnom Penh is booming and growing after many years of problems. More power to the Cambodian people. We’re heading off to Siem Reap in a couple of days.

Highly recommended!
