Poggio

For Italian food in Sausalito, Poggio is a good place! We’ve been coming here for years and the food has gotten better and better. Poggio ("hill" in Italian.) Restaurant is a wonderful Italian trattoria that is a comfortable place filled with locals and visitors alike. The food is a destination-caliber fresh cuisine created by executive chef Peter McNee. Poggio is a beautiful restaurant on the ground floor of the the Casa Madrona Hotel on Bridgeway, the main street of Downtown Sausalito. Across the street from the Ferry Boat Landing, Poggio has heated outdoor tables on the side walk which completes the Italian flavor of the spot.

Wanting to have good Italian food, last night we started with a Pesce Crudo appetizer that hit all the right notes with raw Ahi tuna blended with fresh radishes and kumquats. Also had charred calimari with clementines, excellent!

Then it was time to choose a main dish. We debated about having the huge 3 pound Florentine T-Bone steak for 2, but decided to go in a pasta direction. We started with a silken, tender Ravioli filled with mushrooms along with fresh crab that was covered with a delicious lemon based creamy tomato sauce. An interesting addition was mild fresh green pepper that added a perfect bit of heat with each bite.

The next dish a was tender pasta called Agnolottini from the Piedmonte region of Northern Italy. It was also a ravioli but this this one was filled with fresh chicken livers and covered with a perfect veal jus. Tasty combination. We finished with a delicious house made chocolate gelato that went well with the rest of our bottle of Cline Cashmere, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes. The never-ending basket of fresh baked delicious rolls is a nice touch too.
Pleased not only with the food; but with the service, enthusiasm, seating location, and overall Saturday night dinner vibe. Restaurant was packed and we were genuinely impressed with the service.

Highly Recommended!
